Hana Miller is a 22-year-old Japanese-language student from Philadelphia. She arrives in Japan with a guitar-loving heart, a lot of curiosity, and just four familiar expressions: arigato, konnichiwa, itadakimasu, and gochisosama.
A little shy. A little punk.
Her dad’s love of American punk and J-punk helped spark her interest in Japan. She loves playing guitar. New places make her nervous, but she’s always ready for another little discovery.
Her parents named her Hana after 花, the Japanese word for “flower.” That tiny flower follows her into this little corner of the internet.
Japan beyond the subtitles.
Maybe manga sparked your curiosity. Maybe you’re already planning your next trip. HANA 365 connects that love of Japan with everyday words you might encounter at a table, on a night out, or in a conversation.
Two comic panels introduce each surprise. A clear English guide explains the word. A cute dictionary card helps you remember it.
A story, and a growing dictionary.
Hana is a fictional character. Her 365-day story begins on November 1, 2026. This first collection contains three episodes. Story dates and website publication dates are separate.
You can enjoy her discoveries whether you drink alcohol or not. Drinking isn’t a test of belonging.
Made with care.
Published by Tune your day. Cultural explanations link to supporting sources. Customs can differ between venues and regions; we avoid presenting one scene as a rule for all of Japan.
Hana’s illustrations are made with AI-assisted image tools and reviewed for continuity and readability. Her mascot uses a round-faced chibi style; her story comics use her regular character design.
